2-3.21
Regarding this they say: "The Naudhasa alone should be made the brahman's chant of this day." That echoes the wing. "The Rathantara, the Śyaita alone should be made." That echoes the wing. "The Bṛhat, the five-finale Vāmadevya alone should be made." That echoes the trunk itself. "The Śrāyantīya alone should be made"—indeed nothing echoes the Śrāyantīya. "The Mahāvaiṣṭambha alone should be made." It has directions for its finale. The directions are the pṛṣṭhas: this eastern direction is the Rathantara, this is the Bṛhat, this is the Vairūpa, this is the Vairāja, those are the Mahānāmnī verses, these are the Revatī verses. From the directions they bring him food. Food is brought to him from the directions who knows thus. Moreover, by this alone all their pṛṣṭhas come to have the brahman's chant. Therefore, this sāman should not be omitted from this day. And it is in Satobṛhatī verses, for ascending and for not falling down.
