2-3.81
He brought it forth. He sacrificed with it. Thereupon indeed offspring and cattle closely attached themselves to him, and he propagated closely with offspring and cattle. Offspring and cattle closely attach themselves to him, and he propagates closely with offspring and cattle, who knows thus. Its Bahiṣpavamāna is ninefold (trivṛt). The ninefold is deficient; procreation is deficient: [he thinks,] 'Let that which is procreation procreate me.' Its stomas increase by one: [he thinks,] 'May I propagate from unseparated procreation.' And because one stoma verse is added one by one, therefore [they are called] Upaśads. Its stomas are both: odd and even. That indeed is the divine couple, procreation, which is both stomas: [he thinks,] 'Let that which is the divine couple, procreation, procreate me.' Its two sāmans are both the Bṛhat and the Rathantara. That indeed is the divine couple, procreation, which is both the Bṛhat and the Rathantara: [he thinks,] 'Let that which is the divine couple, procreation, procreate me.'
2-3.81.p1
Its two designated sāmans in the two Pavamānas are the two Janitras of Vasiṣṭha.
2-3.81.p2
That indeed is the divine couple, procreation, which is the two Janitras of Vasiṣṭha:
2-3.81.p3
[he thinks,] 'Let that which is the divine couple, procreation, procreate me.'
2-3.81.p4
Its Agniṣṭomasāman is twenty-versed.
2-3.81.p5
That is the Virāj.
2-3.81.p6
The Virāj is food.
2-3.81.p7
He thus firmly establishes himself at the end of the sacrifice in the Virāj, in food.
2-3.81.p8
Regarding this they say: 'The stoma which attains the Virāj is non-procreative; one should not sacrifice with this.'
