Now this is the Śunaskarṇa stoma.
Śunaskarṇa Vārṣṇyaka was a doer of good deeds and not a doer of evil deeds.
He desired: 'May I, having done only good and having avoided doing evil in this world, go to the heavenly world.'
He saw this sacrifice.
He brought it forth.
He sacrificed with it.
Then, having done only good and having avoided evil in this world, he went to the heavenly world.
He who is a doer of good and desires: 'May I, having done only good and having avoided doing evil in this world, go to the heavenly world'—let him sacrifice with this.
Having done only good and having avoided doing evil in this world, he goes to the heavenly world.
It is threefold (trivṛt).
This [rite] indeed looks away [from this world].
In that the stoma is threefold, it is directed straight toward the heavenly world.
Facing forward, he goes to the heavenly world by means of it.
Its stotras are facing forward, its śastras are facing forward, its pṛṣṭhas are facing forward,
its viṣṭutis are facing forward;
everything about it is facing forward.
They praise on [verses] containing [the preposition] pra ('forth'): thus they make him go forth, facing away, to that world.
