The gods and the asuras contended. At that time, these works of art were only in Prajāpati, not in the other gods. Indra ran up to Prajāpati, saying: 'Let me conquer the asuras!' To him he gave this work of art. He fastened it upon him. Just as one would fasten a gold ornament, a jewel, a garland, so he held it up by [his] body. For him he fashioned this work of art, these pṛṣṭhas. Then there was that other brilliance with which he burns here. The asuras, having recognized this form, lost courage and were defeated, crying only: 'He, our father, slays! He, our father, slays!' Thereupon the gods prospered, the asuras were defeated. He prospers himself, his spiteful rival is defeated, who knows thus.
