By this, indeed, Haviṣmat and Haviṣkṛt immediately went to the heavenly world. Its stotras are directed away; its recitations are directed away; its pṛṣṭhas are directed away; its arrangements of verses are directed away; everything is directed away. Therefore, one should sacrifice with it only in later life, when one does not look back to this world, when one does not wish to settle in this world, when one desires to depart completely from this world to that world. He should sacrifice with this. Having sacrificed, he goes indeed to the heavenly world. In that [rite], then, they should perform both the Hāviṣmata and Hāviṣkṛta [sāmans], which lead to heaven, for the attainment of the heavenly world. Regarding it, they say: 'They should produce seven hundred and twenty stoma verses.' That many are the days and nights of the year. Thus they do not depart from the year. And they also say: 'As many stoma verses as there are in this three-day rite of Jyotis, Gauḥ, and Āyus, that many stoma verses should they produce for this [rite].' Thereby they do not depart from the form of the three-day rite. And they also say: 'They should produce exactly one thousand stoma verses for it.' A thousand, verily, are the stoma verses of the three-day rite. Thus they do not depart from the form of the three-day rite. That two-day rite is truly successful which is extended by the measure of a three-day rite, or that three-day rite which is extended by the measure of a four-day rite.
