He saw this four-day rite; he took it; he sacrificed with it. His stomas are these: the trivṛt and pañcadaśa, the saptadaśa and ekaviṃśa—deficient and redundant, pairs, procreative. One is deficient, the other redundant. Offspring and cattle are born from a deficient and redundant pair. The trivṛt and the pañcadaśa: that is a pair, a procreation. The saptadaśa and the ekaviṃśa: that is a pair, a procreation. [He thinks:] 'Whatever is a pair, a procreation, may that bring forth for me!' Then he was propagated manifold with offspring and cattle. Manifold with offspring and cattle is he born, who knows thus. And they say: 'He feared the scattering of those very offspring once created.' He saw this four-day sacrifice; he took it; he sacrificed with it. The two Agniṣṭomas are on both sides of it, the two Ukthyas in the middle. The Agniṣṭoma is the brahman; the Ukthyas are offspring and cattle. Thus by means of the brahman on both sides he encloses offspring and cattle, so they may not be scattered. The property of him who knows thus is not scattered.
