Then there are these four Ukthyas in the middle.
Cattle, indeed, are the ukthas.
Their stotriya verses are a thousand.
Indra and Agni, indeed, took the thousand, having enclosed it on both sides.
Cattle, enclosed on both sides by both these worlds and by Indra and Agni,
wait upon him who knows thus.
For them, there is Parīṇad, a small lake in the southern part of Kurukṣetra, for their consecration.
They go eastward through Kurukṣetra.
This, indeed, is the sacrificial ground of the gods, namely Kurukṣetra.
It is through the sacrificial ground of the gods that they go.
Their purificatory bath is the Yamunā.
The heavenly world, indeed, is the Yamunā.
It is to the heavenly world that they go.
Now, as for this [rite] where there is a three-day period going upward and a three-day period going backward: he who should desire, 'May I go to the heavenly world,
[yet] may I stand firm in this world,' let him sacrifice with this.
By the three-day period he goes upward from here to the heavenly world; by the three-day period he descends backward from there.
He goes to the heavenly world; he stands firm in this world.
Moreover, he knows: 'The one who was that [person], I am this [person].' He is born again into this very world.
