In this rite, indeed, they do not undertake the night, [thinking,] 'Lest we praise beyond the Virāj.'
As to that they say: 'The ten-day rite goes beyond the measure of the sacrifice.'
In that this is a five-sacrifice rite, renowned as a five-day rite, [he thinks:] 'May I attain that desire which is the ten-day rite.'
The Atirātra contains all stomas, for conquering, for stepping across all the worlds.
For all this is the stomas alone.
And [they say]: 'Those stomas which we have undertaken one by one—having accomplished them together and being established in them, may we reach the conclusion.'
Now this is the seven-sacrifice rite.
Whatever seven divine canopies there are, of them this is the prospering.
The Śakvarī verses that have seven feet, the seven domestic animals, the seven meters increasing by four, the seven breaths in the head, the twenty-seven heavenly lunar mansions, the twenty-seventh stoma, and whatever is in sevens—of all that this is the prospering, of that the attainment.
As to that they say: 'The ten-day rite goes beyond the measure of the sacrifice.'
