2-8.340
Now, these stomas are Jyotis, Gauḥ, and Āyus. / These, indeed, are the propitious, peaceful, right-path stomas: namely Jyotis, Gauḥ, and Āyus. / Thinking, 'Those stomas which are propitious, peaceful, and of the right path, by them let it not be un-praised,' [they perform them]. / And they amount to the Virāj. / Thereby they take hold of the Virāj as food. / If someone mounts upon a superior without an agreement, he certainly injures him; by whatever misfortune he desires, into that he leads him. / But he who mounts upon him following an agreement, having approached him by agreement, he does not injure him. / In that these stomas are Jyotis, Gauḥ, and Āyus, it is just as if one were to mount upon a superior following an agreement, having approached him by agreement. / Now, this Agniṣṭoma is the threefold Agniṣṭut. / The threefold [stoma], indeed, is the priesthood. / The pṛṣṭha six-day rite is the nobility. / In that they undertake the Agniṣṭut before the pṛṣṭha six-day rite, he places the priesthood in front of the nobility; / therefore a Brahmin is the domestic priest of a Kṣatriya. / And by one sacrificial session they undertake two sacrificial sessions: the twelve-day rite and the fifteen-night rite. / The concluding Atirātra is sacred to Vaiśvānara; for non-soma-sacrificial periods have their conclusion in Vaiśvānara.
2-8.340.p1
This sacrificial session indeed belongs to two months.
2-8.340.p2
The prosperity through that is precisely this prosperity.
2-8.340.p3
What two months indeed are, that is the prosperity of a season.
2-8.340.p4
And a season is visibly the prosperity of the year.
2-8.340.p5
It is the year that they wish to obtain, the year they desire to attain, when they sacrifice, when they sit for a sacrificial session.
2-8.340.p6
For there is nothing whatsoever outside the year.
2-8.340.p7
Autonomous rule, indeed, are these nights which are twenty-one: ten days on that side, ten on this side.
2-8.340.p8
Now, the day which is in the middle, that is the autonomous ruler, that is the heavenly world.
2-8.340.p9
Thus they go to the zenith of the sun, thus they go to autonomous rule.
2-8.340.p10
Thus they become not following behind another.
2-8.340.p11
Now, these nights amount precisely to the Virāj.
2-8.340.p12
Thereby they attain lordship and sovereign rule over the food of the Virāj.
2-8.340.p13
And there are five, and there is the Virāj.
2-8.340.p14
Those five divine envelopes that exist—this is their prosperity.
2-8.340.p15
Whatever sacrifice is fivefold, whatever cattle are fivefold, whatever food is fivefold, the five seasons that exist, and whatever is in groups of five—
2-8.340.p16
of all that, this is the prosperity, of that the attainment.
2-8.340.p17
Ten are these days on that side, ten on this side, the central day (viṣuvat) is the twenty-first.
