Now, the two months are indeed the prosperity of a season; and a season is visibly the prosperity of the year. They seek to prosper in the year, they seek to obtain the year, when they sacrifice, when they sit at a sacrificial session, for nothing whatsoever is outside the year. These nights are independent rule: that which is twenty-five [nights has] twelve days before and twelve behind; then the day that is in the middle, that is the independent ruler, that is the heavenly world. Thereby they go to the zenith of the sun, they go to independent rule, thereby they become not dependent on another. These nights correspond indeed to the jagatī. Cattle are indeed the jagatī; therefore this sacrificial session belongs to cattle. And they reach the virāj; and they reach the lordship and sovereignty of food, which belongs to the virāj. The virāj is deficient by one; that which is deficient belongs to the woman, for from her [progeny] is produced; thereby it is propagation. And they correspond to the gāyatrī by means of the consecrations, the upasads, and the pressing days. Breath is indeed the gāyatrī; therefore this sacrificial session is conducive to life. Splendor is indeed the gāyatrī; thereby they become splendid and endowed with spiritual luster. Seniority is indeed the gāyatrī; thereby they become established in seniority without a rival.
