They said: "You do know our Indra-sounds.
Give them to us, with which we may have sound.
May that Brahmin have sound who knows us."
To them he gave these Indra-sounds:
what is the sound of fire, what of a chariot, that he gave to this one [earth];
what is the sound of wind, what of birds, that he gave to this one [atmosphere];
what is the sound of the rain-cloud, what of the drum, that he gave to that one [sky].
These indeed are their Indra-sounds.
Having lived [with him] for a year, they walked away.
He said: "Why have you walked away?"
They said: "You do know our Indra-sports.
Give them to us, with which we may play.
May that Brahmin play with offspring and cattle who knows us."
To them he gave these Indra-sports, [namely the words] 'Indrā! Indrā! Indrā!'.
These indeed are their Indra-sports.
Having lived [with him] for a year, they walked away.
He said: "Why have you walked away?"
