20.106

They said: "You do know our forms.
Give them to us, with which we may have form.
May that Brahmin have form who knows us."
To them he gave forms:
what is the form of this [earth] when its dust has been laid in the rainy season, when it is first coming to life,
that he gave to this one;
and what is the form of the atmosphere when its dust has been laid in the rainy season, that he gave to that one.
These indeed are their forms.
Having lived [with him] for a year, they walked away.
He said: "Why have you walked away?"
They said: "You do know our names.
Give them to us, with which we may have names.
May that Brahmin have name[s] who knows us."
To them he gave names:
"You are Bhūḥ," he said to this one; "You are Bhuvaḥ," to this one; "You are Svaḥ," to that one.
These indeed are their names.
Having lived [with him] for a year, they walked away.
He said: "Why have you walked away?"
