58.306
These verses share in the Mahāvrata;
as much as one obtains by the Mahāvrata, so much does one obtain who has chanted with these verses.
One was the day of mind, another of speech;
what was the day of mind, having taken that together, the gods stepped upward to the heavenly world;
then what was the day of speech, that became this day;
by it they were established in this world with offspring and cattle.
In that they praise with the mind, it is to perceive that day.
The hotṛ recites the Caturhotṛ formulas; the Caturhotṛs are brahman;
brahman alone can reach her chanted hymns and recitations.
These indeed are the secret names of the gods, namely the Caturhotṛs;
them alone does he bring to light;
they, brought to light, bring him to renown.
He goes to renown who knows thus.
Now, if there is a Brahmin who is fit for fame, but does not attain fame, he, going away to the forest, having untied knots,
should recite the Caturhotṛs to them, or having made a Brahmin a bystander.
These indeed are the secret names of the gods, namely the Caturhotṛs;
them alone does he bring to light;
they, brought to light, bring him to renown.
He goes to renown who knows thus.

However, woman indeed becomes the strength, and worse-and-better (confusion of hierarchy) results.

One should chant only when they are concluded, for the avoidance of worse-and-better.
