moreover, through these fires all the seasons come to possess fire. The first day has the extended iḷā; the second has the upward iḷā; the third has the surrounded iḷā; the fourth has the iḷā with iḷās; the fifth has the one-and-a-half iḷā; and the sixth has the iḷā repeated with the sound iha. Now indeed Vāsyaska asked the Naimiṣīyas: "What do you do on the first day?" "We go forth," [they said]. "What on the second?" "We settle down," [they said]. "What on the third?" "We float around," [they said]. "What on the fourth?" "We cover the existent with the existent," [they said]. "What on the fifth?" "Cutting apart the cattle, we come," [they said]. "What on the sixth?" "We arrive," they said. "Then for these cattle we perform healing." Now, as for "we go forth": it is indeed extended forth when one goes forth. Extended is the iḷā of the first day.
58.332.p1
Now as for "we settle down": stopping, as it were, unyoking, as it were, they settle down.
58.332.p2
For stopping, as it were, the iḷā of the second day reaches its finale.
58.332.p3
Now as for "we float around": floating around, as it were, the iḷā of the third day reaches
58.332.p4
its finale.
58.332.p5
Now as for "we cover the existent with the existent": that is iḷās with iḷās, cattle with cattle.
