ekāṣṭakā tapasā tapyamānā
jajāna garbham mahimānam indram /
tena devās asahanta śatrūn
hantā asurāṇām abhavat śacībhiṣ //
The Ekāṣṭakā, performing austerity with heat, / gave birth to an embryo, the majestic Indra; / with him the gods overcame their enemies; / he became the slayer of the Asuras through his powers.
