prādeśamātrī bhavati | prādeśamātro vai garbho viṣṇurātmasammitāmevāsminnetatsambhūtiṃ dadhāti
It (the kindling-stick) is a span long, for Vishnu, as an embryo, was a span long: he thus imparts to it growth equal to his body.
