káś cid dha vā́ asmā́l lokā́t prétya /
ātmā́naṃ veda /
āyám ahám asmī́ti /
káś cit sváṃ lokáṃ ná prátiprájānāti /
agnímugdho ha_evá dhumátāntaḥ /
sváṃ lokáṃ ná prátiprájānāti /
átha yó ha_eváitám agním̐ sāvitráṃ véda /
sá evā́smā́l lokā́t prétya /
ātmā́naṃ veda /
ayám ahám asmī́ti /

A certain one, having departed from this world,
knows himself:
"Here I am."
A certain one does not recognise his own world;
bewildered by the fire, choked by smoke,
he does not recognise his own world.
Now, whoever knows this Sāvitra fire,
he, having departed from this world,
knows himself:
"Here I am."
