saṃvatsarò 'si parivatsarò 'si /
idāvatsarò 'sīduvatsarò 'si /
idvatsarò 'si vatsarò 'si /
tásya te vasantáḥ síraḥ /
grīṣmó dákṣiṇaḥ pakṣáḥ /
varṣā́ḥ púccham /
śarád úttaraḥ pakṣáḥ /
hemantó mádhyam /
pūrvapakṣā́ś cítayaḥ /
aparapakṣā́ḥ púrīṣam /

You are the year; you are the full year; / you are the following year; you are the recurring year; / you are the current year; you are the year. / Of you, spring is the head; / summer is the right wing; / the rainy season is the tail; / autumn is the left wing; / winter is the middle; / the waxing fortnights are the layers; / the waning fortnights are the loose earth filling;
