paścād agner ulūkhalaṃ dṛm̐hayitvā sakṛtsaṃgṛhītaṃ vrīhimuṣṭim avahanti savyottarābhyāṃ pāṇibhyām.

To the west of the fire he places a mortar so that it stands firmly, and husks, holding his left hand uppermost, one handful of rice-grains which he has seized with one grasp.
