وحدثني الخجندي [1] قال: قصدته، واتصلت به، فأنعم علي بألف مثقال من الذهب، ثم سأل إن كنت أختار الإقامة أو العود، فقلت: اخترت الإقامة، فأجراني في جملة الجند.

Al-Khujandī [1] told me: I went to him and gained access to him, and he bestowed on me a thousand mithqāls of gold. Then he asked whether I preferred to stay or to return, and I said: 'I choose to stay.' So he enrolled me among the troops.
