وبعد تلك الأيام خرج إلى لقائنا القضاة والفقهاء والمشايخ وبعض الأمراء، وهم يسمون الأمراء ملوكا، فحيث يقول أهل ديار مصر وغيرها الأمير يقولون هم الملك، وخرج إلى لقائنا الشيخ ظهير الدين الزنجاني وهو كبير المنزلة عند السلطان.

After those days the qāḍīs, the jurists, the shaykhs and some of the amīrs came out to meet us — they call amīrs "maliks", so that where the people of Egypt and elsewhere say "amīr" they say "malik" — and Shaykh Ẓahīr al-Dīn al-Zanjānī, who holds high rank with the Sultan, came out to meet us.
