10.20.1

كان لي غلام فأبق مني، وألفيته بيد رجل من الترك، فذهبت إلى انتزاعه من يده فقال لي الشيخ: إن هذا الغلام لا يصلح لك فلا تأخذه، وكان التركي راغبا في المصالحة فصالحته بمائة دينار أخذتها منه وتركته له، فلما كان بعد ستة أشهر قتل سيده وأتي به السلطان، فأمر بتسليمه لأولاد سيده، فقتلوه.

I had a slave who ran away from me, and I found him in the possession of a Turk. I went to take him back from him, but the shaykh said to me: "This slave is not good for you, so do not take him." The Turk was willing to come to terms, so I settled with him for a hundred dinars, which I took from him, and left the slave to him. Six months later [the slave] killed his master and was brought before the sultan, who ordered that he be handed over to his master's sons, and they killed him.
