وكان السلطان قد بعث هدية إلى الخليفة بديار مصر أبي العباس، وطلب له أن يبعث له أمر التقدمة على بلاد الهند والسند اعتقادا منه في الخلافة فبعث إليه الخليفة أبو العباس ما طلبه مع شيخ الشيوخ بديار مصر ركن الدين، فلما قدم عليه بالغ إكرامه وأعطاه عطاء جزلا، وكان يقوم له متى دخل عليه ويعظمه، ثم صرفه وأعطاه أموالا طائلة.

The sultan had sent a gift to the caliph in Egypt, Abū al-ʿAbbās, and asked him to send him a patent of investiture over the lands of Hind and Sind, out of his belief in the caliphate. The caliph Abū al-ʿAbbās sent him what he had requested with the chief shaykh of Egypt, Rukn al-Dīn. When he came to him, he honoured him greatly and gave him an ample gift; he would rise for him whenever he came in to him and treat him with reverence. Then he dismissed him and gave him vast sums.
