وكان يخدم أصحابه ومماليكه وفتيانه في خدمة البستان وبنائه ويقول: لا أرضى أن ياكلوا طعامي وهم لا يخدمون. وكان علي مرة دين، فطلبت به فقال لي في بعض الأيام:
