وبهذه المدينة مسجد حسن مبنى بالحجارة، وبها العنب الكثير والرمان الطيب، ولقيت بها الشيخ الصالح محمد النيسابوري أحد الفقراء المولهين الذين يسدلون شعورهم على أكتافهم، ومعه سبع رباه يأكل مع الفقراء ويقعد معهم، وكان معه نحو ثلاثين فقيرا، لأحدهم غزالة تكون مع الأسد في موضع واحد فلا يعرض لها! وأقمت بمدينة فتن، وكان السلطان غياث الدين قد صنع له أحد الجوكية حبوبا للقوة على الجماع، وذكروا أن من جملة أخلاطها برادة الحديد، فأكل منها فوق الحاجة فمرض ووصل إلى فتن فخرجت إلى لقائه وأهديت له هدية فلما استقر بها بعث عن قائد البحر خواجة سرور، فقال له: لا تشتغل بسوى المراكب المعينة للسفر إلى الجزائر، وأراد أن يعطيني قيمة الهدية، فأبيت، ثم ندمت! لانه مات فلم آخذ شيئا! وأقام بفتن نصف شهر ثم رحل إلى حضرته.

In this city there is a fine mosque built of stone, and it has many grapes and excellent pomegranates. There I met the pious shaykh Muḥammad al-Nīsābūrī, one of the ecstatic faqīrs who let their hair hang down over their shoulders. He had with him a lion cub which he kept as a pet; it ate with the faqīrs and sat with them. He had about thirty faqīrs with him, one of whom had a gazelle that stayed in the same place as the lion, and the lion did not molest it! I stayed in the city of Fattan. One of the yogīs had made Sultan Ghiyāth al-Dīn pills to strengthen him for sexual intercourse, and they said that among their ingredients were iron filings. He took more of them than was needed, fell ill, and arrived at Fattan. I went out to meet him and presented him with a gift. When he had settled there he sent for the admiral, Khwāja Surūr, and said to him: "Occupy yourself with nothing but the ships assigned for the voyage to the islands." He wanted to give me the value of the gift, but I refused; then I regretted it, for he died and I received nothing! He stayed in Fattan for half a month and then left for his capital.
