When Sultan Muʿizz al-Dīn was afflicted, as we have mentioned, with the withering of one side of his body, his deputy Jalāl al-Dīn rebelled against him [— as we have mentioned, with the withering of one side of his body, his deputy Jalāl al-Dīn rebelled against him —] and went out to the outskirts of the city and took position on a hill there beside a dome known as the Dome of al-Jayshānī. Muʿizz al-Dīn sent the amīrs to fight him, but each one he sent swore allegiance to Jalāl al-Dīn and joined his following. Then he entered the city and besieged him in the palace for three days.
