12.23.1

During his stay in Dihlī the vizier arrived from the land of Banjāla. The Sultan ordered the great amīrs to go out to receive him, then went out in person to receive him and honoured him greatly. Pavilions were set up in the city as they are for the Sultan when he arrives, and the caliph's son also went out to meet him, as did the jurists, the qāḍīs and the notables. When the Sultan returned to his palace he said to the vizier, 'Go to the house of the Makhdūm Zāda' — that is what he calls him, and it means 'son of the master'. So the vizier went to him and presented him with two thousand gold tankas and many garments. The amīr Qabūla and other great amīrs were present, and I too was present on that occasion.
