وخاض السجزية غمرتها ساعة متوازرين على المدافعة، ومتضافرين على الممانعة والمقارعة، حتى إذا أوهنهم السلاح، وأثخنتهم الجراح، لاذوا بالانجحار ، [112 أ] والاعتصار بسور الحصار. وظهر أولياء السلطان على بعض جوانب السور، في ظلمة الديجور، فتنادوا بشعار الملك المنصور. فانهزم الفجار، وملك عليهم الحصار، وبسطت أيدي القتل والضرب على من نفضتهم الدور، ولفظتم المساكن والقصور ، فمن رؤوس منبوذة ، وأعناق مجذوذة ، ووجوه مكبوبة ، ودماء على الأرض مصبوبة.

The Sijzīs plunged into its thick for a while, supporting one another in defence and joining together in resistance and combat, until, when weapons had weakened them and wounds had exhausted them, they took refuge in burrowing in and sheltering behind the fortress wall. The Sultan's men gained some sides of the wall in the darkness of night and called out the battle-cry of the victorious king. The wicked fled, the fortress was taken from them, and the hands of slaughter and smiting were stretched out against those whom the houses shook out and the dwellings and palaces spat forth: heads cast aside, necks severed, faces thrown down, and blood poured out on the ground.
