¹ About the last Buddhaghosha seems to be doubtful and says **हम्मियगब्भो ति कुटागार-गब्भो मुदण्डच्छादनगब्भो वा;**—but about the other two terms he is clear: **सिविकागब्भो ति चतुरस्सगब्भो; नालिकागब्भो ति वित्थारतो द्विगुणतिगुणायामो दीघगब्भो** (*Chullavagga*, VI. 3. 3). But Oldenberg and Rhys Davids seem to have been wholly misled when they translate these last two by "palankeen shaped and quait measure shaped" about the latter of which Indians of even to-day are quite unfamiliar.
