v2.c16.3

Vitruvius is the name of Roman architect. His treatise, on which in a sense European architecture is bassed, seems to have been composed twenty-five years before the Christian era. "The materals for a life of Vitruvius are only to be found in his own treatise. Among the ancient authors he is merely mentioned by Pliny as one of those writers from whom he compiled; and by Frontinus, in his treatise on Aqueducts, as the first who introduced the Quinarain measure."
