Treatises like the *Śilpa-śāstra* of Maṇḍana and the *Samarāṅgaṇa-Sūtradhāra* are comparatively modern texts, some of which treat the subjects of their requirement in an abridged form while others in an enlarged form. Although they do not expressly say so, yet there is convincing reason to believe that they are but compilations. One such text is actually named *Saṁgraha* (compilation) and expressly acknowledges its indebtedness to twenty-one authorities including the *Mānasāra*, the *Mayamata* and others. It specifically states that such and such chapters have been compiled from such and such authorities.
