Bodhimaṇḍa is also called Vajrāsana, the throne under the Bodhi-tree at Bodh-Gaya, on which Buddha sat when attaining Bodhi or perfect wisdom. The word ‘Kānta’ here might have a technical architectural meaning. In the *Mānasāra*, the names of the buildings of various storeys generally end with ‘kānta,’ e. g., meru-kānta, hima-kānta, etc.; so also the names of the columns, e.g., Brahma-kānta, Vishṇu-kānta, etc.—(Bodh-Gaya inscrip. of Mahanaman, lines 10, 11, *C.
