The next motif is that of a female figure standing against the stem of a tree and holding a large lotus flower in her hand. The lotus had prominent association with these sports. The motif is corresponding to the one described by Kālidāsa as Līlā-kamala held in the hand by sportive girls. In later Orissan art the same was known as Padma-gandhā i. e. a young woman smelling a lotus or holding it, whereas in western India she was known as Padminī or Sugandhā.
