The nari lata must not be confused with representations of other female figures (Pl. XL., 1, etc.) or divinities, such as the goddess Śrī or Lakshmī, Pl. IX., 1, seated, and holding sprays of foliage; in the true nari-lata the lower part of the figure is replaced by conventional foliage (Pl. XXXIX., 3, and Pl. XL., 13, are typical), in the other cases limbs and garments are complete, and the figure is often seated on a throne.
