Of other conventional flower and leaf ornament, some forms are obviously based on natural prototypes, and consciously used as representative of them; others have only fanciful names, and their natural prototypes, if any, can only be discovered by historical and comparative investigation. Such investigations are much to be desired, and when accomplished, will throw much light on the history of Indian art. There are many not known separately by name, of which examples will be found amongst the illustrations, in addition to those specially mentioned here.
