One of the principal routes was from Hambantoṭa to Kandy, passing through Vellavāya and up on to the Uva patanas; through Eṭṭalapiṭiya, Dambevinne (Veḷimaḍa), Paraṇagama (Fort MacDonald) to Maturaṭa and thence through Hanguṟanketa, Mīrūpe, Taḷatuoya and Ampiṭiya to Kandy. The longest stage between two *iḍam* was not more than fifteen miles. From Kandy, a main track proceeded to Anurādhapura. There was also a track which passed down through the Three and Four Kōrales to Sītavaka and Colombo.†
