The present-day Government Rest House, or Dāk bungalow as it would be called in India, may be regarded as the descendant of the old *iḍam*, but accommodates a very different type of traveller. Rest-houses of the old type, in a debased Kandyan style, have in recent times been built at Ratnapura, Ruvanvẹli, and Kẹgalla.
