Grünwedel's work on 'Buddhist Art in India,' while specially lacking in reference to ancient or modern Sinhalese art, nevertheless makes mention of the interest attaching to works containing formulas for the construction or drawing of Buddhist images, giving detailed dimensions. These he speaks of as modern and as specially characteristic of the northern school. It is therefore of special interest to be able to give some account of the work known in Ceylon as Sariputra, which deals with the dimensions of images in general and Buddha in particular.
