I am indebted to my learned friend Mudaliyar E. R. Gooneratne of Galle, for a translation of the Sariputra, based on a transcript of the copy in the Colombo Museum, compared with three copies which he with difficulty secured in the Southern Province and which were deficient in the first and more general part which appears in the Museum ms. Before proceeding to give some idea of the contents of the work, I quote a part of the learned Mudaliyar's remarks upon it :—
