Palanquin fittings are of damascened iron, often beautiful and elaborate; good examples may be seen at the Kandy Mahā Dēvāle and the Viṣṇu Dēvāle, Hanguraṅketa. Generally of plain iron are the two *konṭeru* or iron palanquin-rests, which are mounted on lacquered staffs carried by the bearers, to support the pole of the palanquin whilst resting.
