Surgical instruments appear to have been made. Sinhalese medicine is stronger on the side of drugs and applications than in practical surgery; at any rate not much is known of medical instruments in use, but Mr. Bell states that the Gẹṭaberiya family of Gopala Moors are in possession of ‘some implements of surgery made of iron, steel and brass, for excising wounds, cauterization, etc.’ (Kẹgalla Report, p. 100). The Gopala Moors referred to were hereditary medical practitioners, much favoured by the Kandyan kings.
