the Lacedaemonians, who had been waiting for the signal, now attacked the city. The Plataeans, seeing the enemy already inside and their own men being killed, and realizing that the situation was hopeless, decided to surrender, hoping that they might be spared if they laid down their arms. They did so, and the Lacedaemonians did them no harm.
