This primitive Church was not a mere collection of individuals, but a body, a living organism, of which Christ was the head, and the Holy Spirit the animating principle. It was a society which, while it existed in the world, was not of the world. It had its own laws, its own government, its own discipline, and its own mission. Its mission was to bear witness to Christ, to preach the gospel to every creature, and to make disciples of all nations.
