The following are examples of popular kirthanas-- Vérnams are songs very similar to svarajotas, merely differing in that the several parts of which they are composed are not arranged in quite the same manner, and that they are more difficult of execution. Vérnams are, as a rule, much longer than svarajotas, and contain a larger amount of grace throughout. They are usually in the more uncommon râgas, and the time is purposely made as catchy as possible. Their performance is therefore seldom attempted by other than skilled musicians.
