I. — From a photograph taken by the author at the British Museum (height of the original m. 0.71). The image has already been published by Dr. BURGESS (J. of Ind. Art and Ind., 1898, pl. 4, 2). It reminds us distantly of the type of Demeter. The bosoms are placed very high, as is usual in the school of Gandhāra. The head of Piṅgala is partly broken. At the bottom, on the goddess' right, ought we to recognize two donors? The other persons — one of whom, on the right, is feeding a parrot, whilst two others, on the left, are wrestling, a fourth raises a fruit to his mouth and a fifth is crouched on the front of the stand — evidently form part of the troop of little demons, progeny of Hārītī. (Cf. p. 283).
