(1) Lāl Kavi wrote a ballad on this battle in Kanauji dialect of the *rāga-mālā* pictures (B.M. Add. 26550) is very clumsy and mechanical and cannot be earlier than the middle of the 19th century. Lāl Kavi's text is of iconographic value as it helps to identify certain versions of rāgiṇīs different from other pictorial patterns. The literary merit of his verses may be judged from a typical quatrain describing Bhairava rāga (Plate III) and the one describing Pañcama rāgiṇī quoted on Plate LXXVIII.
