The Chālukyas of Bādāmi, (Vātāpi of the inscriptions) of all the royal dynasties of Karṇāṭaka in particular and of South India in general, by their valour and adventure made themselves known to the North India, as early as the 7th century A.D. in the decisive encounter with Harshavardhana of Kanauj on the banks of the river Narmadā.
