In the wake of the decline of Mauryan, there arose another political power gradually in the Deccan namely the Sātavāhanas. Their capital was at Pratigṭhānapura i.e.modern Paithan (in Aurangābād District, Mahārāṣtra). During their reign in the North Karṇāṭaka, their feudatories, such as the Kuras in Goa, and Kārwar regions, the Chutus in Banavāsi region and the Mahāraṭhis in Chitradurga,Bellary and Raichur region, were ruling. Their coins are found in large numbers in some places of their regions such as Banavasi, Chandravalli Maski etc.(Narashimha Murthy,A.V., 1975, pp. 48-49).
