With regard to the Penugonda gate, only its lowest part is extant; now we can only know about the ground plan of the gate. It abuts on the northern side a huge boulder. The street through the gate is straight and not zig-zag. The gate is square in plan having guards' Pavilions on the sides of the street. The Pavilion is pillared. There are two pillars in the facade and two and three pilasters in the rear. The pavilion opens into a facade facing the street. Both the pavilions could accommodate a small group of soldiers.
