The fort has semi-circular bastions, numbering 60 on the exterior at regular intervals of 35 m. to 40 m. all along its length. The bastions are of varying diameters from 15 m. to 18 m. The moat, which surrounds the fort, is fed by the Bēgum Talao about 6 km. south and the Rāmlinga tank about 5 km north west, of Bijāpur. The water from Bēgum Talao is conducted through the under ground earthen pipes of 80-60 cm diameters. In between the Talao and the moat there are water towers, 6 m. x 6 m. x 12 m. of ashlar masonry, to regulate and control the flow of the water. They number 6, each at an interval of 3/4 km.
